The Style Professor is a gentleman I discovered a while ago on Social Media platform Instagram. Looking for inspiration in the field of preppy style brought me on his account where I was caught by the dashing outfits he is wearing. One of the first things that occurred to me was how comfortable this gentleman looks in the clothes he wears, he doesn’t dress up because he has to, but to enjoy it! This we see also back in many of his outfits which can sometimes be so bold that even the most pessimistic man on earth will start to be happy. Tweeds, seersuckers, flannels, suits, stripes checks, ties, bowties we see it all coming by and sometimes a proper casual outfit appears as well. He prefers to remain anonymous and this is something I highly respect. But I am extremely honoured that he wanted to answer the ‘’17 questions to a well-dressed man’’ and hope that you enjoy reading his answers. Don’t forget to check out his Instagram account afterwards as I’m sure you will be enjoying that even more.

What are you wearing today?

Double breasted indigo dyed blazer and striped oxford cloth button down shirt, both from Polo Ralph Lauren. Striped cotton bowtie by High Cotton. Chambray pocket square by J. Crew. Chinos by Brooks Brothers. Allen Edmonds tassel loafers.

If you had to choose to spend money either on a suit or on a watch, what would you choose?

I have a LOT of suits. Maybe it’s time for a watch upgrade.

What jewellery could a man wear?

Whatever he likes. I have a soft spot for cufflinks.

Tie or a bowtie?

Depends on how I feel.

Do you remember your first jacket?

No but I do recall my excitement at getting a Nehru jacket when I was about 9.

What is your favourite watch?

My go-to watch is the Normalzeit, which has a Seiko mechanism with a distinctive octagonal shape based upon the old street clocks in Vienna.

Fountain pen or ballpoint?

In the past year I think that I’ve only used a pen to make shopping or “to-do” lists, or to doodle while on a boring Zoom meeting.

Have you found the perfect garment yet?

I have a variety that are perfect for certain moods/occasions.

Explain your biggest passion in one sentence?

I enjoy the thrill of discovery.

What is your guilty pleasure?

A great cocktail and some salted nuts.

Who is the best dressed man in the world for you?

Cary Grant. Though I dress rather differently myself.

The best book you ever read?

Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. It remains so scarily relevant.

Which city should one go shopping?

London.

Tweed or flannel?

Tweed, for the amazing textural variations

The most elegant restaurant in the world for you?

I am more of a great neighbourhood trattoria or brasserie sort of guy

Describe your style in three words?

“Reflects my mood”

Or maybe you’re looking for “Personal. Eclectic. Comfortable.”

Best purchase you did in the last 6 months?

Real tortoiseshell eyeglass frames from the 1960’s, before further harvesting was banned.
