Adriaan Trampe is an entrepreneur in the wonderful world of watches. With his brand Eza watches he offers high quality timepieces for affordable prices and in an impeccable style that reminds you of watches from the past. His brand has its roots in Pforzheim, Germany which is a city with heritage in watchmaking. Beside watches Adriaan has a passion for dressing well and I can’t remember seeing him dressed in a bad manner ever. He especially loves suits, ties and shirts that are made in Italy and has a lot of respect for the craftsmanship that goes into it. That is something we share and which made me want to ask him the ‘’17 questions to a well-dressed man’’. His answers you can read below.

What are you wearing today?

Today, a pair of white pleated cotton trousers (I am addicted to white pants), light blue shirt with double cuffs and a cotton sporty jacket. Combined with one of my favourite pairs of shoes: suede oxfords. This way I try to create a little sporty combination while still being able to go to meeting in a more formal office.

If you had to choose to spend money either on a suit or on a watch, what would you choose?

As a watchmaker, this is a tricky question for me. However, since I only wear Eza timepieces and I own the entire collection, I say now that I would spend my money on a new suit.

What jewellery could a man wear?

A watch, cufflinks, a ring and if the look allows this, a tie pin.

Tie or a bowtie?

Tie for me. I almost only wear a bowtie with a black- or white tie dress code. However, with Christmas it can be fun to experiment a bit with a bright bow tie.

Do you remember your first jacket?

Yes! Definitely. A dark blue jacket with light blue lining. I received this from my cousin who received a budget from his work to update his wardrobe quite often. His last name is Consigliere which might be why I prefer Italian styling now. We are both quite slim and tall so only little alterations had to be made to the jacket. I still have this jacket, however you start to see some worn out places like the elbows.

What is your favourite watch?

Eza Watches! This is of course because I own the brand but I really believe that in this price category (600-800 USD) our watches are one of the best choices. If I can fantasise on a watch which I can’t afford right now I would try to own a Patek Philippe 5712 with blue dial. Such an elegant watch for every occasion and rarer than a 5711.

Fountain pen or ballpoint?

Always fountain. I always take two fountain pens with me in my briefcase. I really prefer the feeling of writing with a fountain pen and it gives me much pleasure sketching and writing about new ideas.

Have you found the perfect garment yet?

Difficult to say which is my favourite. However, I really love the pleated trousers. Perhaps it’s me but they look classy and wear as comfortable as my PJ’s.

Explain your biggest passion in one sentence?

Passion for craftmanship in many areas.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Wearing a sports outfit when on a long flight for example.

Who is the best dressed man in the world for you?

I really adore the style of Pino Luciano. A very classy look with a splash of colour. Then I also like Alessandro Squarzi for mixing street style with formal wear.

The best book you ever read?

Masters of contemporary watchmaking! This book started my love for watchmaking and craftmanship in General.

Which city should one go shopping?

For me Milan. This is just 4 hours by train away from where I live. A great place to get lost in the small independent shops to buy great style for a good price.

Tweed or flannel?

Tweed! But mostly for jackets. I am so happy its becoming winter again.

The most elegant restaurant in the world for you?

I had the opportunity to eat one time at Osteria Francescana in Modena. By Massimo Bottura. This was the best restaurant experience and food in my life so far.

Describe your style in three words?

Contemporary, Italian, colourful.

Best purchase you did in the last 6 months?

My dark brown Oxfords. They are so versatile to wear. I wear them under a suit, chino’s and even jeans.
