Max Girombelli runs Duca Sartoria in New York. An Italian bespoke tailoring house that is around for a while and serves customers all over the world with fine bespoke suits, jackets, trousers etc. Beside New York, they have locations in Milan, London, Moscow and Dubai. Being in tailoring Max has a great passion for dressing well and fine fabrics. It’s visible in his style which is unmistakable Italian like you would see it on the street of Milan. I’m sure he is in many cases an example for his customers. I’m happy he agreed on answering the ‘’17 questions to a well-dressed man’’ and hope you enjoy the answers he gave on the questions.

What are you wearing today?

My Duca jeans made of Cerruti new cotton and cashmere material, a white jersey stretch custom made shirt and my unconstructed super light cashmere cotton jacket. Always two handkerchiefs.

If you had to choose to spend money either on a suit or on a watch, what would you choose?

I collect vintage watches and luckily enough, making suits for business. This said I think they both give you a sense of confidence and style and really adapt to your mood and taste.

What jewellery could a man wear?

For sure a nice watch, personally I don’t mind wearing a leather neckless with a shark tooth and few diving charms.

Tie or a bowtie?

I love ties, I am a big fun and avid collector, but I am surely happy to wear a bowtie with suit and jacket. Tuxedo is only with a custom made bowtie.

Do you remember your first jacket?

I remember very well the first suit I made out of my own line of production; classic blue herring bone Loro Piana Super 120’s. At that time the finest 150’S or 200’S where not available in the market.

Thirty years later I did not change too much my personal style, always 3 buttons jacket and one pleat pants with 5 cm cuff.

What is your favourite watch?

Vintage Rolex Daytona, Big Red.

Fountain pen or ballpoint?

Not too fussy about pen, any ballpoint will work for me, blue ink.

Have you found the perfect garment yet?

Many of the items I make have their own purpose: traveling pants for my long flights, unconstructed jacket with all my customized inside pockets for less formal days and so on.

Explain your biggest passion in one sentence?

One word: Details. The true elegance is in your details.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Good food and great wine can’t forget my Italian spirit.

Who is the best dressed man in the world for you?

Gianni Agnelli. The master of Italian Elegance in the world.

The best book you ever read?

The next one.

Which city should one go shopping?

I would mention two, Milan and New York.

Tweed or flannel?

Flannel, but unfortunately not very practical anymore.

The most elegant restaurant in the world for you?

Harry’s Bar in Venice. Elegance is its simplicity

Describe your style in three words?

Detailed Italian Elegance.

Best purchase you did in the last 6 months?

My last vintage Rolex Pepsi made in 1968 my year.
